    Description

Up for bid is this WWI helmet. It is for sale as is, as found, as shown. I have no further information on it in terms of possibly who used it, though I think that the helmets with the chin-strap anchors riveted in place were for US soldiers, rather than Brits, for instance. The helmets I've seen advertised for British solders appeared to have bent-over pins holding the anchors in place.
The last two photos here are multiple shots of the letters/numbers stamped on the underside of the rim. I can make out what appears to be 96 as the last two characters, but I don't know what the preceding character(s) may be. Perhaps an expert on these things will view this listing and contact me with the answer?
The helmet is slightly oval, measuring 12-1/4" x 11-1/4" at the rim. Laid flat, the crown is 4-1/2" high.
