Wonderful World War I M1917 Camouflage Helmet WWI WW2

Wonderful example of an original World War I US M1917 combat helmet with a fantastic camouflage pattern! This one was purchased years ago from Dale C. Anderson, and has been in my collection for over 25 years. We know that this example is the US M1917 because of the riveted chinstrap bales, whereas the British M1916 (from which the American helmet was copied) used split pins. It was thought by some collectors who have seen this helmet that the red emblem that is painted on the front of the helmet is some sort of unit marking, but I have not been able to say for sure. When you look closely at the paint, you can see areas of abrasion, crazing and fine cracks, which is a key indicator of originality. Plenty of brush strokes can be seen as well. The liner is present, as well as a partial chinstrap. A simple "W" can be seen on the inside rim as a heat stamp. If there was one camouflage M1917 that you wanted for your collection, this one would be it.
The helmet remains in very good condition showing signs of age, use, and wear. The helmet is missing some of the chinstrap, but is otherwise complete. Please see the pictures for more detail.
