    Description

Vintage 1947 Book by Margaret Cooper Gay  HOW TO LIVE WITH A CAT with dustcover --- Illustrated by Roberta MacDonald
All of the art work and collectibles being sold by Adams-Byrd Fine Art & Antiques have been collected and selected one at a time by the proprietor, an art historian with many years of training and experience in university art history departments, museums, galleries, and historic sites both in the U.S. and abroad.  The business has been based in the Washington, D.C. area for many years.  The art and collectibles that we are offering to eBay buyers are special and unique pieces that have been carefully "curated" by us.
This wonderful vintage book from 1947 is a must have for any collection of cat collectibles.  It was published by Simon & Schuster in New York (it is the third printing).  The subtitle is A PRACTICAL MANUAL COVERING FOOD, HEALTH, KITTENS, FIRST AID.  It is illustrated by ROBERTA MACDONALD.  There are forewords by Dr. Norman H. Johnson, former assistant Chief Surgeon, New York City Hospital, A.S.P.C.A. and Sydney H. Coleman, Executive Vice[President, A.S.P.C.A., and National Humane Association.
On the back of the dust jacket it reads:
    About the Author
MARGARET COOPER GARY has lived with cats most of her life, having brought home her first kitten before she learned to talk.  "I also like dogs," she writes, "and have always had animals, from bears to honey bears, from toucans to titmice, from horses to marmosets."  Miss Gay has owned a pet shop for six years.  Her stories and articles, on varied subjects, have been published in American and English magazines.
    About the Illustrator
ROBERTA MACDONALD is known chiefly as a regular contributor to the gaiety of
    The New Yorker
, but her cartoons have appeared in many other magazines.  Last year she drew the illustrations for Margaret Fishback's lighthearted book,
    Look Who's a Mother
    .
The dust jacket is a bit raggedy, but it has served to protect the book for 65 years.  The cover (pale gray with orange/red printing) and the inside of the book are in good condition.  There is some writing (letters and numbers) in pencil inside the back cover.
Each of the wonderful eighteen illustrations by Roberta MacDonald has an amusing caption.
