On the right of the image is Fu, who is associated with the planet Jupiter; he is depicted in scholar's dress, holding a young child and a fan. Fu is the personification of happiness and good fortune.
In the middle is Lu, who is associated with a star in Ursa Major (the Big Dipper), and is depicted in a Mandarin's garments.  Fu is the personification of prosperity, rank, and influence, and he was believed to control one's success in the Imperial Examinations, and therefore success in the imperial bureaucracy.
On the left is Shou, who is associated with the star of the south pole in Chinese astronomy. According to legend, he was carried in his mother's womb for ten years before being born, and was already an old man when delivered. As the god of longevity, he is recognized by his high, domed forehead and the gourd filled with Elixir of Life tied to the end of his walking stick.
