Description
This lot consists of a rare and unusual octagonal candy box from the Home Candy Company of Chicago. The company was incorporated in 1921 and didn't seem to last long, so we're guessing that this box comes from the 1920s. The box measures approximately 8 1/2" in either direction and is approximately 1 1/4" deep. The top is a medium slate blue with a pale pink and cream embossed image of a woman sitting in a chair with the words "TO MOTHER." The image strongly resembles the famous painting "Whistler's Mother." The outside of the box top is covered in a pale pink, textured finishing paper. The box bottom fits inside the top (the visible, outer edges are the top). The box is in decent condition for its age. There is noticeable wear, particularly on the top where the outer edges meet the blue paper. There are numerous brownish stains and foxing on the top and sides. On the inside, the box is a smooth pressed cardboard with an almost wood-grain texture. The interior of the box is in nice condition except for a few water spots on the bottom.Shipping:
