: This pail is very similar to those made by CanCo for Lovell & Covel (Boston, MA) but not embossed on the base. This is an earlier example when H.D. Foss & Co. moved their confectionery operations from Winona to Boston, sometime around 1919. See Internet for further information.
Pail exterior with (3) different colorful Nursery Rhyme scenes, with a caption reading:
“The Queen of Hearts made some tarts
All on a Summer’s day
The Jack of Hearts He stole the Tarts
And then He ran away.”
Condition
:
Pail
is in Good to Very Good overall condition with slight wear, scuffs, rubs, soiling, fading, etc., as shown. It has not been cleaned.
Lid
shows moderate wear, oxidation and finish loss.
Label
with staining, fading and two minor losses on the perimeter.
Base
with some scuffs and scratches; otherwise bright and shiny.
A charming miniature container with desirable litho graphics and subject matter. Displays brilliantly; highly-appropriate for the advanced collector.
